The Prototype Toronto League’s 6th season had been a blast. I’d played 7 awesome games vs shrewd and capable opponents in the regular season and there I was sitting in the top 8 (To find out about the PTL click here and here.)
While many of the top 8 were fierce and awesome opponents, the one I feared most of all was my pal Kelvin. Kelvin’s skills with fast ships and mini-swarms and/or aces are locally hailed. He can make it a nightmare to kill his high-evade ships and plink you to death. Over the last four seasons we’d played each season. In the first two, I crushed him, and in the last two, he served me up curbstompings with my best lists against his.
Pretty much every Star Wars fan knows who Mr. Plinkett is. If for some reason you don’t, drop what you are doing and go watch his scathing analysis of why the Prequels “SUCK HAIRY BALLS COVERED IN VOMIT” (his words not mine).
Mr. Plinkett’s videos are long mind you, and you’d be hard pressed to watch everything in one sitting. They are also interlaced with extremely morbid humour.
I didn’t find it easy coming up with a list to bring to Worlds as the meta had shifted ever since the newest errata came out. If you were an Imperial player like me, you “should fly” Defenders. I agree it makes sense, but I’m not one for playing a meta list. I’m also a dedicated Soontir Fel player, which often gets me ridiculed. Keeping with a favourite ship makes me believe that I’ll continue to have fun playing this game. Besides, Defenders are way too predictable and boring, I find.
