Challenging myself: Building around Leeachos

Like many others, when I first saw the pilot ability of scum z-95 pilot Kaa’to Leeachos, I chuckled slightly, thinking of how absurd the idea was. This is a guy who’s ability makes his teammates actively worse, and gives them no tokens or stat boosts or modifiers to compensate. What a self-centred jerk! However, as someone who, at least for the foreseeable future will be playing scum either exclusively or near-exclusively, I tried to challenge myself by not only including him in a list, but by making him the centre point of a few lists. Not only that, but I want to get around to using them. So I spent some time with a squad builder and came up with some interesting lists around this guy.

Now pronounce his last name and see how fitting it is.
Now pronounce his last name and see how fitting it is.

I started thinking to myself: “this guy is almost like a reverse Kyle Katarn, but instead of giving out a focus to a friendly, he takes it, and instead of being able to do so at range 3, he has the additional option of taking an evade when within range”. Then I started thinking: how do I make others more like Kyle?

You get a focus, you get a focus, you get a focus, everybody gets a focus!!!
You get a focus, you get a focus, you get a focus, everybody gets a focus!!!

Then I started thinking that there were two upgrades that made Kyle work, recon specialist and the moldy crow. Since Leeachos turns friendlies into pseudo Kyle, maybe giving his teammates these upgrades would be a good idea. Then I need to give Leeachos EPTs that take advantage of possible extra focus tokens. Here’s the first list that came to mind:

Kaa’to Leeachos with Bodyguard – 17 points

Kath Scarlett with Recon Specialist – 41 points

Boba Fett with Recon Specialist – 42 points

This list is very simple, and Leeachos not only gets the most benefit out of focus tokens, but also can use them to help save Kath of Boba. Let’s say that Kath is out of everyone’s arc, and Boba has a few ships pointed at him, with Leeachos near them both. Kath only needs one focus (to fire) so Leeachos steals the second from her, using it on bodyguard to give Boba some extra staying power for the turn. You might have just saved Boba!!!

That makes me picture Boba saying 'no disintegrations' to the enemy.
That makes me picture Boba saying ‘no disintegrations’ to an enemy firing at him.

Sticking with the bounty hunter theme, IG-88 C can gain free evades, giving Leeachos another option of what to steal, especially since C might not even use his free evades. I cam up with the following:

 Kaa’to Leeachos with Calculation – 16 points

IG-88C with Push the Limit, IG2000 and Advanced Sensors – 42 points

IG-88D with Push the Limit, IG2000 and Advanced Sensors – 42 points

Hi
Hi

Both IG-88s can get both a focus and evade (while boosting), then do a green move to clear stress. Leeachos can then steal either a focus or an evade, with a focus also increasing the chance for a crit.

Moving on to the Moldy Crow for a second, and returning to recon specialist, as well as other ways to gain focus, we have the following

Kaa’to Leeachos –  15 points

Palob Godalhi with Recon Specialist, Ion turret and Moldy Crow – 31 points

Guri – 30 points

Tansarii Point Pilot with ‘heavy scyk’ title, predator, Flechette Cannon – 24 points

Here, both Palob and Guri can acquire multiple  foci, allowing Leeachos to target lock every turn. Palob’s Ion turret also combines well with the Tansarii’s Flechette cannon, and every ships is PS 5.

You can have Leeachos steal a stolen token. How about that?

Also, with the moldy crow upgrade, both Dace and Torkil are also candidates to be flown alongside Leeachos.

So glad this isn't rebel only

Another use for Leeachos is getting the TL at range 3 of an enemy, stealing a focus, and using a missile right away.

I have to admit, before this, Leeachos was my least favourite scum pilot, but I now am much more drawn to choosing him. Anyone else feel this guy should deserve more of a chance than he gets? Or is he still just the little guy?

Size matters not!

May the force be with you pilot.

  1. Ha that’s funny, combining Leeachos with Palob. I like your idea of him shooting a missile that way. The only problem I see is that HWKs are overpriced, for me they are at any rate. Still, the reasoning is sound and it definitely looks fun. Not all games should be played in “power game” mode!

I really like the Bodyguard idea. If you can position him well, he would turn a 3 Agility ship into a 4 Agility ship. That’s a cloaked Phantom. Not bad at all.

Z-95s are great. They are like TIE Fighters in that you get a very efficient ship at a great price. If you could get Leeachos working, I have a feeling he would pay off. On top of that, he looks very fun to play in the ways you’ve described.
