Grégoire Guillemin is an artist I recently came across. He is part of a movement called geek art. In a series of paintings titled “The Secret Life of Heroes” he takes heroic icons from our generation’s childhood and, in keeping with our cynical times, juxtaposes them in unheroic scenes.
Using a minimalist pop art style, Grégoire mixes in sexuality, gluttony, consumerism, vanity, pop culture and the banal, creating direct works of art. His is a simple yet well executed idea and some of his pieces are rather funny and entertaining. Examples of Grégoire’s theme include Superman picking his nose or Snow White sucking a lollypop like the girl in Nabakov’s Lolita.
In Guillemin’s collection there are a number of Star Wars paintings that I thought I’d share with you below.
Now wouldn’t some of these make the best avatars? 🙂
If you have the time, check out the rest of Grégoire Guillemin’s collection here.
