I managed to play in a Sullust event and when it came down to selecting prizes, I wanted to get the Rogue Pack because I was interested in getting a head start on painting up the ships.
Unfortunately, a great guy that I met there and a local veteran Kristjan, also wanted the pack. I felt bad for taking the Rogues ahead of him so I vowed to do something special by painting all the ships and sharing them so others get an insight into painting them before release. I think there is a slight problem with squadrons in Armada, and for me it’s mostly a problem of theme. Game mechanics have trumped fluff. Where are the heroes talking over comms to other pilots setting up attack runs? No one is saying “cut the chatter Red Two” because everyone is too busy waiting for orders from capital ships. Why do Imperials have to take mercenaries in their fleets if they want a squadron to move and attack? No TIEs have Rouge? Is that because Boba Fett is a better star pilot than Darth Vader? Continue reading Ideas to Fix the “Squadron Problem” in Star Wars Armada
Last Friday night I went to Dueling Grounds to join Yik and Vic for some Armada fun. These two are some of the best local players, each winning a Sullust event. They both brought some wave 2 winnings to play with, how exciting!

Emperor Palpatine. I wish to report that I have successfully destroyed the rogue Imperials and Rebel scum that had captured the prototype Imperial Star Destroyer II at Sullust.

This is my battle report for the Massing at Sullust Star Wars Armada tournament at 401 Games on October 3, 2015. Continue reading Battle Report: Massing at Sullust
If you missed it, I gave a tutorial on how to paint TIE Fighters over here. After I finished with those TIEs, I wanted to do something special for that cutest of female pilots, Howlrunner. So I decided to paint Imperial Logos on her wings! In order to tackle the problem of painting such a small logo, I searched the internet for some help. Continue reading Star Wars Armada: Painting the Imperial Logo on a TIE Fighter
With the coming of Massing at Sullust, I’ve gotten excited about Armada again and will try to make one of the local tourneys. In Toronto and Hamilton, we will be having a total of 5 events, which is a good indicator that Armada is gaining traction!
I’m hopeful all the Armada players will be coming out of the woodwork to play. Hey, an Imperial Star Destroyer is up for grabs! If that isn’t a good enough reason to get a group of Star Wars geeks together in order to push plastic around I don’t know what is. So try to make it out next weekend if you can.

Today we interview our National Champion in Armada, Travis – nice guy and good gamer all around. He was also kind enough to do a battle report which you can check out here.

This past Sunday I was lucky enough to play in the 2015 Canadian Nationals for Star Wars: Armada taking place at Fan Expo in Toronto. My main event was the Warhammer 40,000: Conquest LCG nationals that took place on Friday, where I made top 8 but was bounced in the first elimination round. I haven’t played as much Armada, so I had more modest ambitions for that event. Continue reading Star Wars Armada: Canadian Nationals 2015
Every Star Wars fan knows Ackbar’s famous exclamation, “Our cruisers can’t repel firepower of that magnitude!” Well guess what, Motti can – and he’ll do it all by himself.
In Star Wars Armada, Admiral Motti must have the strangest game effect to date as he boosts the hull value of all ships in his force. What’s so strange about that you ask? Well, when Motti’s ship is destroyed his card is flipped over and his commander effect no longer applies. That means if there were Imperial ships down to the one or two extra hull that Motti gave them, they would immediately blow up as those “magical Motti” hull points disappear. In essence, all ships have extra health only while he lives.
How can we explain this? Well, I think I have an answer. Continue reading The Great Admiral Motti in Star Wars: Armada
As I mentioned in my previous article, I was going to share how my first few games of Armada turned out.
Since my friend Yik and I were playing Armada for the first time, our games were fraught with mistakes. We also didn’t play with any obstacles or objectives, but decided to give list building a try. If you’re interested in how the two of us stumbled around the tabletop, then dear reader, please read on. Continue reading Star Wars Armada: First Few Games, Quick Report
